DMCA AND TAKEDOWN POLICY

Effective November 1, 2026.

MemeStand respects the rights of creators. The memes and images on this site belong to their owners. We show small, credited thumbnails that link to the original source so readers can see what is trending and go to the original. If you own something on MemeStand and want it removed, tell us and we will take it down. You don't need a formal notice for that; a simple request is enough. For a formal notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), follow the steps below.

Where to send a notice

MemeStand DMCA Agent: open an issue at github.com/NotParagon/memestand/issues (issues are public: include the page and item, but leave out your home address, phone and other private details; we will ask for anything else privately).

What a DMCA notice must include

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), a notice must be in writing and include:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act for them.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed (or a representative list, if several works are covered).
  3. Identification of the material on MemeStand that you say infringes, with enough detail for us to find it: the page URL and the item's headline or rank.
  4. Your contact information: name, mailing address, telephone number and, if available, email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

Please consider whether the use may be a fair use (for example, a small thumbnail used for ranking and commentary) before sending a notice. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly makes a material misrepresentation in a notice or counter-notice may be liable for damages.

What we do

When we receive a valid notice (or a reasonable removal request from a creator), we remove or disable access to the item promptly, usually within a few days. Removal applies everywhere on the site, including past daily reports in the archive, the feed and our data files, and the item is added to a blocklist so it is not ranked again. Where we can, we tell the person who posted it.

Counter-notices

If material you posted or own was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3) to the same contact. It must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district where your address is (or, if outside the United States, any judicial district in which MemeStand may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.

We will forward a valid counter-notice to the original complainant. If they do not tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action to stop the activity, we may restore the material within 10 to 14 business days after receiving the counter-notice. As a small aggregator, we may also choose not to restore it.

Repeat infringers

MemeStand does not accept user uploads; we choose and link memes ourselves. If a source account or website is the subject of repeated valid notices, we stop featuring its content. We will also end access for anyone who repeatedly infringes through any feature we may add later.

Other requests

For trademark, privacy, likeness or defamation concerns, or to correct a headline, open an issue at github.com/NotParagon/memestand/issues (issues are public: include the page and item, but leave out your home address, phone and other private details; we will ask for anything else privately). We review every request.
